India is home of many devout people looking for salvation. No wonder, many Dada - Didi - Bapu - Swami - Ma - are everywhere to meet the needs of masses. While some of these do provide spiritual path without taking advantage of devotees many are full fledged fraud playing on the emotions of people.
Basic technique is to use the scripture to attract - give you sense of belonging to a large family - giving a sense of importance - and slowly you forget what you came in for. The picture of God become smaller and the one of the Godman/woman get larger and larger. Basically they even use God for their own selfish purpose with no remorse.
One such movement is Swadhyay by Pandurang Athavale (Dada) who attracted devotions of millions all over the globe. The educated and rich were attracted like uneducated and poor from low caste. For a while it seemed like biggest social revolution changing lives all over the world.
Dada also made a plan of succession where by after his departure a group of senior members were to continue the movement. Suddenly, Dada announced that Didi (his adopted daughter) will be taking over and he announced that “anyone objecting to his command was guilty of killing a cow or brahmin.
This was a wake up call! Many were able to see through the facade of this movement. They started dissenting or questioning what was going on behind the scene. The response was swift and brutal. Silencing the dissenters and intimidating them and their family did work for while. Many of the original high profile Swadhyayees left - but kept their mouth shut for the fear of repraisals.
Then came the Gujarat Earthquake of 2001 - one of the largest catastrophe to hit Gujarat. The donation of money poured in from all over the globe. Swadhyay also received large sums without any solicitation. They claimed that in less than six moths 4336 houses were build by them in Kutchh. This was surprising since by this time the rescue and clean up was just coming to an end. When asked where this houses are?
To silence the rising dissent - Violence - Intimidation by filing multiple cases in remote villages of Gujarat, where Swadhyay enjoyed popularity - and even murder was employed.
Sri Pankajbhai Trivedi openly raised questions they decided to deal with it by Murder!
